Unlicensed Activity Concerning Intermediaries
These entities had impersonated SC’s licensed and/or registered entities, including misusing the name and logo, credentials and websites of legitimate entities.
Their modus operandi is as follows:
1) These scams are promoted via social media through paid Facebook advertisements to lure investors with investment packages guaranteeing high returns.
2) Interested individuals/investors are asked to click on a WhatsApp / Telegram link within the Facebook advertisement.
3) Individuals will be redirected to communicate to an “agent” or “broker” via the WhatsApp / Telegram application.
4) Once the interest to invest is communicated, the scammer will provide a mule bank account details for the investment to be made.
5) Once the initial “investment” is made, individuals will be notified very soon thereafter that their investment has made a profit. However, to withdraw their profits, these individuals will be asked to make further payments guised as Bank Negara charges, income tax charges, administrative fees etc.
