Vibrant Participation from Retailers Boosts Bursa Malaysia Exchange

Since MCO, we noticed strong retailer’s participation hovering around 22-41% (average 32%) of total trading volumes in 2020; this is an important journey where retailer’s participation normally would range between 16-25% over the past few years. Given the decent participation from traders and investors, we are developing some great tools to provide great trading opportunities for clients. Hence the creation of our M+ Wiz is to identify real-time opportunities for traders.

Since MCO, we noticed strong retailer’s participation hovering around 22-41% (average 32%) of total trading volumes in 2020; this is an important journey where retailer’s participation normally would range between 16-25% over the past few years in the Bursa Malaysia Exchange. Given the decent participation from traders and investors, we are developing some great tools to provide great trading opportunities for clients. Hence the creation of our M+ Wiz is to identify real-time opportunities for traders.

In our managed M+ Wiz list, we have put in several counters under the gold proxy and it went well for the stocks.

The first question one will be asking is why do we select gold stocks?

It is quite clear that gold prices have surged through the roof near the USD2,000 level (highest recently was USD1,981 level) following the:-
(i) unlimited liquidity injection by the Federal Reserve,
(ii) depreciating USD and
(iii) rising geopolitical tension between US and China.

So we put in TOMEI and BAHVEST yesterday for our system to trigger the entry.

Let’s see what happens this morning for our future case study.

TOMEI – Triggered at 9.00 am and smooth sailing towards the intraday high

Source: M+ Wiz

TOMEI: The daily range was from RM0.72 to RM0.96, 14 sen range for you to pick an entry and exit. Very decent move for traders to take the ride. However, as gold prices started to fizzle throughout the day, TOMEI slid in tandem with the gold movement.

BAHVEST – Being triggered at first few minutes of the day

BAHVEST: The daily move, ranging from RM0.52 to RM0.625 was a good range for traders to ride along. Similarly it has hit the intra-day high and fizzled off in line with the gold prices movement.

Beside gold-proxies, we have selected LKL, which is under the healthcare sector.

LKL – Went well after being alerted by M+ Wiz, was it you that traded?

Source: M+ Wiz

LKL: The price trended higher from RM0.615 to the highest point of RM0.69 within the first session of the day was a good journey for M+ Wiz users. Thereafter, you may take profit with a decent gain. We suspected the trading interest piled up due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation and boosted healthcare stocks throughout the session.

Although M+ Wiz is a systematic real-time alert function, we are able to add value by selecting the best potential sector and stocks into the M+ Wiz list from our research department, providing a human-touch to the stock market.

We will actively monitor M+ Wiz for opportunities in Bursa Malaysia and provide traders the fair timing for entries with a systematic approach.

We would like to highlight that these examples above are not a suggestion for a BUY or a SELL recommendation and it is more for a case study reference material for the future.

Be patient and be rewarded by the M+ Wiz real-time alerts!

Bank Negara’s OPR in focus

Bargain hunting activities emerged on the glove counters after more than one week of pullback, lifting the FBM KLCI and the healthcare sector higher. Market will be looking forward to the second Monetary Policy Committee meeting today to gauge market movements. However, economists anticipate an unchanged stance on the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) amid expectation of an economic recovery. We believe the lower liners will continue to remain upbeat if the positive market sentiment persists. Meanwhile, the Brent oil price has seen a rebound.

Streched valuations

Bucking the downturn across the regional markets, the FBM KLCI ended modestly higher as continued selling in glove heavyweights were offset by buying support in IHH and selected banking heavyweights. We believe the local bourse should trade in an upward bias tone following the change of MCO status for Selangor, Johor, Penang and KL. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 confirmed cases daily has dropped to year-to-date low. However, note that the negative sentiment on Wall Street overnight could cap the upside potential on the local front.

technical focus

Technical Focus – LHI

One of the largest fully integrated producers of poultry, eggs and livestock feed in Southeast Asia with strong presence in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore. Committed to expand the Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam operations via additional capacities and infrastructures, whilst targets 160 Baker’s Cottage outlets by end-FY21 (from 103 outlets since end-FY20). Sequential earnings recovery is on the table, premised to the stabilising poultry prices in Malaysia as well as Indonesia in recent months. Technically, the flag-formation breakout above RM0.71 may lead price towards the immediate resistances at RM0.775-0.82, with long term target at RM0.885.

Rebound in sight

The FBM KLCI ended the first trading session of March in red amid continued selling pressure in glove heavyweights following further developments on Covid-19 vaccine. Although the arrival of the Covid-19 vaccine has dented the sentiment on healthcare sector, the local bourse was supported by the positive sentiment on the recovery-theme sectors. Meanwhile, we also expect 5G and tech stocks to trade firmer following overnight Nasdaq performance.
